Folio field
Gives each record a running number, like V-0001, V-0002. Nobody types it:
Selfform assigns it on saving, and two records never share one, even when
they're saved at the same time.
Setting it up
- Label and Help text, as in any field.
- Prefix: the text before the number, like
V-. It's optional.
- Digits: how many digits the number has at least, from 1 to 12. With 4, the
first one is
0001. When they run out, the number keeps growing.
The builder shows how the first folio will look.
How it numbers
- Creating a record takes the next number, starting at 1. A record saved
again keeps its folio.
- Importing a CSV numbers the rows in order. If the import fails, no number
is used up.
- Adding it to a form that already has records numbers them in the order
they were created.
- Changing the prefix or the digits only affects new records.
A folio goes on the main form, not inside a dialog.
Where it shows
- On the form, as a field that can't be edited. Before saving it says it's
assigned on save.
- In a table, as one more column, which can be filtered as text.
- As the record's name, when the entity has no text field (see
boards and backlogs).
- In a formula, as text:
'Sale ' & [folio].

There are no records to number here, so the example looks empty.
